East Bay Municipal Utility District’s (EBMUD’s) new Wastewater Plant Optimization group is currently seeking an Associate Civil Engineer who is motivated, energetic, innovative, a team player, a strong project manager, with excellent writing and verbal skills, and is experienced in wastewater process, operations, and maintenance engineering. In this role, the successful candidate will lead process area teams that conduct sophisticated wastewater treatment plant optimization projects involving innovative treatment processes or process modifications, automated process monitoring and control systems, state-of-the-art data handling technologies, and process computer modeling. Other efficiency projects may include investigating the expanded use of EBMUD’s current Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS—Maximo) to streamline EBMUD’s work order system; asset management; materials and equipment tracking, flow, and warehousing; and ensuring the integrity of CMMS data.
The most competitive candidates will possess significant knowledge of wastewater process engineering principles, sanitary engineering chemistry and microbiology; proper conduct of engineering studies; wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance; project management principles and practices; excellent analytical, problem solving, and critical reasoning skills; and work extremely well with others. Experience will include success in managing multi-discipline wastewater engineering projects; writing technical reports, and preparing and delivering technical presentations.
The salary range is $10,455 per month increasing to $10,978, $11,527, $12,103 and $12,708 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.

1. A bachelor’s degree in an ABET-accredited civil engineering, environmental engineering, or mechanical engineering curriculum OR a California EIT Certificate;
2. Four years of professional engineering experience (subsequent to obtaining the degree), which is equivalent to two years of experience at EBMUD’s Assistant Engineer level; and
3. California registration as a Professional Civil Engineer.
4. Possession of a valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
