Position Description

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Acts as a technical expert in the area of water quality and water treatment. Coordinates and manages water quality control programs. Assists in coordinating water quality group’s activities with other departments and outside organizations. Plans, schedules, assigns, supervises and reviews the work of assigned staff engaged in design of project drawings. Reviews and approves all project cost estimates. Updates standard drawings and specifications. Observes field project sites and coordinates construction of proposed projects with the Construction and Operations Departments. Solves field problems when necessary. Serves on the engineering design review group, the materials review committee and other committees within and outside of the Company as assigned. Frequently uses initiative and independent judgment and routinely engages in contact with consulting engineers, regulatory and permitting agency representatives, contractors, and personnel within the Company. Performs special projects and completes written reports as required.

Position Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to provide technical guidance and expertise on water quality issues; compile, interpret, and evaluate numerical data; supervise, direct, and coordinate the work of assigned staff personnel and consultants; act as liaison and represent the Company in meetings with regulatory, governmental, and professional groups; prepare clear and concise reports; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Education and Experience
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil, Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a closely related field is required. A Master’s degree is preferred. At least three years progressively responsible work and experience related to water systems and facilities is required. California State Registration as a Professional Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineer is preferred. Possession of a Grade T3 or higher Water Treatment Plant Operator’s License issued by the California Department of Public Health is preferred.

Other Requirements
Must possess a valid California Class C driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
