Salary Range: Grade II base pay range ($5,976 to $7,264); with Dual Certification pay ($6,275 to $7,627); with Triple Certification pay ($6,588 to $8,009) Grade III base pay range ($6,588 to $8,009); with Dual Certification pay ($6,918 to $8,409); with Triple Certification pay ($7,264 to $8,829) The starting pay is dependent upon qualifications, background and successful experience. Housing stipend: dependent on commute distance to the treatment plant. (Less than 7.5 miles $500) (More than 7.5 but less than 15 miles $250)

Position Description

The LAS GALLINAS VALLEY SANITARY DISTRICT is looking for a WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR for our plant located in San Rafael, California.
Under the direction of the Chief Plant Operator and the Treatment Plant Operations and Maintenance Supervisor, the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator position will perform operational/maintenance/repair duties related to the District’s wastewater treatment plant, pump stations, reclamation area disposal system and state-of-the-art membrane/ultraviolet recycled water facility. The District’s Operators perform a variety of operational, mechanical and electrical tasks to ensure the wastewater treatment plant and other District facilities are being operated and maintained at their peak performance. Dual (5%) and triple (5%) certification pay is available for individuals who hold and maintain additional certification requirements. Typical certifications held by Operators have been in the disciplines of CWEA Mechanical Technologist or CWEA Electrical/Instrumentation Technologist. A limited number of certifications for CWEA Laboratory Analyst may also be considered upon availability.

Work includes rotational weekend assignments, on-call duties and occasional after hours assignments typically associated with wet weather events. The District is seeking motivated individuals who possess a strong work ethic. Ideal candidates holding CASWRCB Grade III Certification with strong mechanical and/or electrical/instrumentation abilities are highly desired. Sharing a passion and awareness for protecting public health and improving our environment for people and wildlife will be considered carefully.

Position Qualifications

The candidates for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator position will possess a high school diploma or equivalent, along with a minimum of one year of increasingly responsible experience in wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance. The successful candidate must maintain a valid California Driver’s License and either hold or obtain a minimum of a California State Water Resources Control Board (CASWRCB) Grade III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate within two test cycles from date of hire. The position also requires that the successful candidate reside within a forty five minute automobile driving radius of the District office, during non-commute hours, to be able to respond to the treatment plant.
