Position Description

East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) invites qualified persons to apply for an immediate Temporary Construction (TC) opening as an Assistant Engineer (Mechanical or Electrical) in the Commissioning Services Group of the Engineering and Construction Department. Under supervision, the Assistant Engineer (Electrical) will perform a variety of electrical and control system testing, startup and commissioning tasks related to the construction of municipal water and wastewater treatment and distribution facilities. Under supervision, the Assistant Engineer (Mechanical) will perform a variety of mechanical and process system testing and commissioning tasks related to the construction of municipal water and wastewater treatment and distribution facilities.

The ideal candidate will have experience in some or all of the following areas:
• Water, wastewater, or industrial electrical and control system testing, startup, and commissioning
• NETA electrical power equipment and systems testing
• Conducting electrical inspection and performing instrumentation loop checks
• Basic troubleshooting and inspection of electrical machinery
• Coordinating power service with PG&E in accordance with the requirements of the Green Book and Interconnection Handbook
• Water, wastewater, or industrial mechanical equipment inspection, testing, and commissioning, including rotating machinery, chemical metering system, large valves, HVAC and other water/wastewater process equipment
• Water, wastewater, or pumping plant design or construction
• Performing submittal reviews and processing RFIs
• Developing and coordinating testing and startup plans
• The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, conduct meetings and make presentations.

Position Qualifications

1. A bachelor's degree in an engineering curriculum accredited by ABET or a California Engineer in Training Certificate
2. Two years of professional civil, electrical, mechanical, control systems, geotechnical, sanitary or structural engineering experience, at a level comparable to or higher than EBMUD's Junior Engineer classification, after obtaining the education outlined above. An advanced degree in an accredited engineering curriculum may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
3. A valid California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
