Position Description

East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) is seeking a seasoned Senior Systems Programmer to be the technical lead for EBMUD’s data center backup and recovery infrastructure utilizing CommVault Simpana. Additional responsibilities may include systems administration of operating systems, storage, databases, and hypervisors.

This person will join a technical support team in the Information Systems Department (ISD) who delivers a variety of IT services and solutions to EBMUD including systems administration, project management, disaster recovery, and business continuity support.

We are seeking candidates with day-to-day operational experience of backup and recovery practices in a heterogeneous environment with Linux, Solaris, Windows, VMware, Oracle, and NetApp technologies.

The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert in CommVault Simpana configuration, operations and maintenance in a data center environment with Linux, Solaris, Windows, VMware, Oracle, and NetApp technologies. He or she will have:
• A thorough understanding of business continuity and disaster recovery concepts
• Operational support experience in multiple technologies and systems
• A passionate drive to provide excellence in delivering highly available IT services
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• At least three years of experience supporting data center class computer systems, at least two of which were in systems administration/engineering

The salary range is $8,791 per month increasing to $9,231, $9,693, $10,178, and $10,687 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.

Position Qualifications

1. A bachelor’s degree AND
2a. *Three years of experience programming business applications for computer systems, at least two of which were in systems programming; OR
2b. *Two years of experience in systems programming, one year of which was at a level comparable to or higher than the EBMUD class of Systems Programmer II
3. Ability to serve in a rotation of 24/7 on-call support

*A bachelor’s degree in computer science may be substituted for one year’s experience in systems administration/engineering.
