Maintenance Worker Trainee or Maintenance Worker I

Position Description

Maintenance Worker Trainee is an entry level class, while Maintenance Worker I is a skilled level class in the Maintenance Worker Series. These positions are under general supervision or direction, perform a variety of wastewater collection system maintenance duties assigned to classes within the Maintenance Worker series; perform or assist in cleaning, televising, inspection, repairing clearing, locating, and constructing District facilities; demonstrate a full understanding of the proper and safe use, and operation of all equipment, tools, and methods associated with wastewater collection system maintenance; demonstrate a full understanding of all applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties.

Position Qualifications

• A high school diploma, or GED equivalent, or completion of twelfth grade.
• One year of work experience in construction or maintenance work, preferably as a laborer, plumber, pipe layer, equipment operation or collection system maintenance. For Maintenance Worker I - One additional year of work experience as a collection system maintenance worker equivalent to District Maintenance Worker Trainee.
• Successful completion of Kenneth Kerri, Operation and Maintenance of Wastewater Collection Systems – Volume I and Volume II Coursework within 12 months of hire. For Maintenance Worker I - Coursework to be completed within 6 months of hire.
• Possession of a Class C California driver’s license with ability to obtain Class B California commercial driver’s license with tank endorsements within 6 months of hire. For Maintenance Worker I - Must possess Class A or B California commercial driver’s license with tank endorsements. DMV driving record must not have any violations within last five years or any point count.
• Maintenance Worker I must possess a Grade 1 - Collection System Maintenance Certification issued by the California Water Environment Association Technical Certification Program.
