Position Description

Under general direction, the Instrument Maintenance Supervisor (Wastewater Maintenance) at East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) plans, schedules, coordinates, directs, and reviews the installation, maintenance, and repair of recording and metering devices, control apparatus, radio and tone telemetering equipment, data logging and display equipment, and the DCS used to monitor and control the main and remote wastewater treatment plants, as well as interceptor monitoring and pumping stations.

The ideal candidate will have strong oral and written communication skills, prior supervisory or lead-level experience, a strong technical background, and knowledge of wastewater plant and remote operations.

Typical duties include:
• Overseeing staff who maintain, repair, test, calibrate, and install electronic systems and devices, chemical feeders, flow meters, a variety of recording, data logging, and control equipment, communications systems, multiplex equipment, computers, including complex DCS, PLC, PAC and SCADA used to monitor and control wastewater treatment plants, interceptor monitoring and pumping stations.
• Directing and assisting in troubleshooting and repair by reading and interpreting wiring diagrams, schematics, mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and specifications.
• Reviewing work requests, visiting work sites, and inspecting locations where work is to be performed, noting special equipment needs and difficulties that may be encountered.
• Reviewing work in progress to ensure compliance with industry and EBMUD’s standards.
• Assisting in the development and implementation of a preventative maintenance program for instrumentation and computer equipment.
• Ensuring that proper safety precautions are followed.
• Evaluating and selecting new employees.
• Keeping records, as well as making regular and special reports.
• Assisting with the development of the annual budget and monitoring expenditures.
• Estimating time, cost, labor, and material needs.
• Monitoring new developments in the instrument and computer maintenance fields, and evaluating potential application and benefit to EBMUD.
• Arranging for and coordinating work with other EBMUD work units.
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others both within and outside of EBMUD.

The salary range is $9,771 per month increasing to $10,260, $10,773, $11,312 after 6, 18, and 30 months, respectively.

Position Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that has led to the acquisition of the knowledge and abilities indicated above. Typical means of acquiring the essential knowledge and abilities is a combination of training and experience equivalent to:

1. A high school diploma, or its equivalent; and
2. Three years of experience at the journey level comparable to or higher than EBMUD's Instrument Technician* classification.
