Position Description

In support of the District’s mission to provide flood protection and watershed stewardship services to Santa Clara County, these positions will help conduct field investigation and assessment activities along streams, levees, and maintenance roads, and perform corresponding data collection and mapping using GPS tools and GIS software programs, work order preparation, and reporting for District assets. These positions will also provide support to internal and external customer requests via the District’s Access Valley Water (AVW) communications system. These positions will work with field operations administrators, vegetation program specialists, engineering technicians, and engineers, among others.

Two Engineering Technician II positions are being sought with this posting, both of which will be in the District’s Watersheds Operations and Maintenance Division:
• Unit 295 – Vegetation Management Unit
• Unit 298 – Watersheds Operations and Maintenance Engineering Support Unit
Key responsibilities include, but not limited to:
• Conduct field investigation and related activities for District watersheds assets.
• Research and respond to requests via District’s AVW communications system.
• Prepare work orders utilizing Maximo system.
• Prepare GIS maps, conduct research, provide support for vegetation management and engineering work.
• Attend and participate in required meetings.
• Prepare reports relative to data collected and work performed.
• Attend training.
Ideal candidate’s background includes:
• Knowledge and experience using GPS tools, GIS software.
• Knowledge of streams and levees.
• Knowledge of vegetation management principles.
• Experience performing field operations or independent inspections.

Position Qualifications

One year experience equivalent to the Engineering Technician I level.


Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college level course work in engineering, geography, mathematics, or a related field.
