Position Description

The Alameda County Water District in Fremont, California is seeking an exceptionally talented engineer to apply and further develop their technical knowledge and broaden their project management and leadership skills. Under the supervision of the Water Supply and Planning Manager, an Engineer I/II provide technical assistance to all departments on hydraulic modeling, demand forecasting, and water management optimization. The role of the Water Resources Engineer includes conducting water supply and demand-side analyses; implementing water resources planning and water supply programs; participating in the formulation, modification, and/or implementation of the District’s integrated resources plan and related actions; managing consultants; representing the District before various state, regional, and local agencies, advisory committees, and task force groups; preparing a variety of written reports, correspondence, and oral presentations to the Board of Directors or other bodies or groups; analyzing the relationship and impact of other agencies’ plans/projects to ACWD’s water supplies and integrated resource plan; and performs other related work as required.

Engineer I is the entry level in the engineering series. Under close to general supervision within a framework of established policies and procedures, incumbents perform a variety of engineering and administrative tasks of limited to moderate difficulty.

Engineer II is the intermediate level in the environmental engineering series. Under general supervision within a framework of established policies and procedures, incumbents perform a variety of engineering and administrative tasks of moderate difficulty requiring the use of some independent judgment.

The Ideal Candidate will:

Possess a Bachelor or higher degree in engineering with an emphasis on environmental fluid mechanics, or in another related non-engineering technical field such as hydrology, statistics, data or analytical science, fisheries and natural resources management;
Be a collaborative team player who can also work independently;
Demonstrate initiative and be a self-starter with strong program management skills, with a proactive approach to addressing issues, and finding creative solutions; and
Possess demonstrated abilities to build and maintain strong and effective relationships with other agencies, stakeholders, organizations and groups to represent the District’s interests in an effective and positive manner.

Position Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in an engineering curriculum which is accredited by the Engineers' Council for Professional Development, or a California Engineer-In-Training Certificate; and

Engineer I: No work experience is required.

Engineer II: Two years, within the past ten, of practical engineering experience an advanced degree in an accredited engineering curriculum may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
